Dale Keys
His songs are the work of a man grappling with the difficult (and ultimately unanswerable) questions. No easy platitudes, no moralistic bunko. Just the honest observations of a talented artist. David Olney
About Dale
Dale Keys reached a milestone as a songwriter with Grammy-winner Tim O’Brien recording Dale’s song “Five Miles In” on his solo album “He Walked On”. O'Brien also performed the song live on NPR's Mountain Stage at the Kennedy Center in Washington, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, the La Roche Festival in France, and the Kate Wolf Festival. The song also garnered Dale a mention in American Songwriter magazine.
Dale grew up in tiny Webster, Kentucky, and discovered the music of Chet Atkins early on. His love of Chet’s unique finger-style guitar led him to discover the music of the Carter Family and other Americana legends. Joining the Air Force on his 18th birthday, he was eventually stationed near Boise, Idaho, where he lives today.
Moving temporarily to Nashville to try his luck, Dale soon excelled in the songwriting community. His cache of originals caught the attention of the Hot Band's guitarist, Barry Tashian, who produced Dale's first album with Nashville's finest session players. Dale was invited to host his own Writers-In-The-Round shows at the Bluebird Café, along with Tim O’Brien and mandolin great Sam Bush. He was also a featured guest of producer Jim Rooney at Nashville's Station Inn, and with O’Brien on “The Songwriters Series” recorded at Nashville’s NPR affiliate, WPLN.

Dale has shared the stage with Guy Clark, Suzy Bogguss, David Bromberg, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, David Lindley, Michael Martin Murphy, and Sam Bush. He lives in the foothills of Boise, Idaho, with his lovely wife Kim, son Logan, and his award-winning bird dog Hawkeye.
